considering moving to santa fe, nm for college. whats the pros and cons?
Hi, I’m 21 and Im joining the Airforce in Sept. I was considering putting Santa Fe, NM on my dreamsheet (to be stationed) I’ve never visit there but I been doing a lot of research and it seems like I would love it there. The most important things to me is college because Im going to go to school for nursing, are there friendly people, are there thing to do, bars, clubs, anything, is everything expensive or far? anything is good the pros and cons. thanks
I think the closest Airforce base is in Albuquerque (Kirtland AFB). There are a couple of small colleges in Santa Fe but if you want a good nursing program, The University of New Mexico would be the better school; it is also in Albuquerque.
Albuquerque is only about 45 minutes from Santa Fe and many people commute between the two cities, but with the price of gas, it is becoming increasingly difficult. The Railrunner Train Santa Fe/Albuquerque route will be completed sometime next year which will be a great advantage for those commuters. Santa Fe is a very expensive town to live in, but it is on the small side and a little more laid back. The traffic is horrible though, there are only two main streets and they get really backed up, especially during the tourist season. Albuquerque is much cheaper, but it is more of the big city feel (although it is not that big compared to LA, Chicago, Phoenix, Denver, etc…). There are things to do in both places, but being that you are young, I think Albuquerque is a more exciting town.
As for friendly people, it’s like anywhere else, there are good and bad.
