Chicago, Columbus, Denver, St. Louis, Cleveland, or Indianapolis?

Where would you move IF…..

You love:

Yuppies,
Hiking/skiing/outdoors
Republicans
Organic food
Arts/culture/symphony/theatre
Sophistication
Universities
Nice, sprawling suburbs
Starbucks
Snow
Midwest
Cool, colorful fall
Trees
A good economy
Grit
A growing, vibrant city

But HATE:

Traffic
Snobby people
Cities where everyone is always moving around and nobody seems rooted in a place
High rises/new urbanism
Nightclubs
Lots of single people

Which would you pick?

Every city has all of the above. Sorry!

I live about an hour northwest of St. Louis, and I must say compared to other cities, St. Louis is dirty. I don’t appreciate my time spent there. Infact, I’m never going to live in a major city because of St. Louis. I’m far happier living in Winfield, MO where I can have chickens and garden without crazy zoning laws and such!
Now I grow almost organic foods. In particular pastured chicken. I don’t get organic certifications because it is honestly a waste. Organic on a store shelf doesn’t mean what your mind imagines! There are other places to get good food too in the St.Louis area other than me!
You can message me and I’ll tell you more about the organic lies.
Back to Missouri, we have: the Ozarks (lots of trees) and places like Clarksville for trees, a good number of ponds and stocked lakes to fish in, fairly good hunting, two large rivers to play on, etc..

My experience with Chicago is that it has alot of traffic and a fair number of toll roads too. Illinois has a fairly high state gas tax too coupled with a red ink state budget. Springfield, IL left a good impression! If your wanting “country living”, your not going to enjoy the seemingly endless suburba surrounding Chicago!

I’m writing this in Littleton, CO west of Denver. The high altitude here affects me some by making me car sick easily, but with four days past since getting here, I’m almost feeling better.
In Littleton, people exercise alot. It can be snowing like it was a few days ago and someone will be running a trail 9:00pm at night! Also, great views of moutians here!
My current impression is that roads were better designed to compliment Denver compared to places like Chicago and St. Louis.
You mention “new urban” and apparently Denver has some of that. St. Louis’s “newness” isn’t as developed as it is here.
I am told the economy is still well here in Denver. A fair amount of space/aircraft designing goes on here, and given the good defense funding, it is easy to understand why.

Take a look into Kansas City too.

Again, all cities have all you mention above.
