I travel to New York and Washington DC for 3 weeks. What should I do and see?

I'm going in October, Halloween – Yay – I 32 years, Australia and I never saw 1 group of trick-or-treating, but I want to know out of the road, must see, things do not appear in directories of national parks to see and bars and restaurants go to non-tourist. What are the other states to visit in the region worth a short trip. So I can fly in DC and travel to New York or vice versa. Thank you. I know things like the Holocaust Museum, the Smithsonian memory is Lincoln, Look at the White House, Arlington. I found them in 30 seconds on google. Some things never know what I know about.

DC is my strong point: This is what I propose here. For travel advice, I suggest you visit in five main areas. Them are: 1. Monuments and memorials – help make DC Unique. You can visit the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial, the Korean War and Memorial Vietnam Memorial on the Mall and the Jefferson Memorial and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial on the Tidal Basin, but there are memorials and monuments throughout Washington. These should be part of his visit. 2. Government buildings. In addition to the White House (you can only see a tour organized by Congressman) made the Supreme Court (Monday) on building Capitol (M-Saturday), the Library of Congress, the National Archives in Washington, the National Gallery of Art, the National Holocaust Memorial is free and all are worthy visit. Others, like the Newseum, Madame Tussauds, the Spy Museum, the Corcoran, the Phillips Collection – have the right, but it's worth. I do not know a city rich that our museum. 4. Visit a neighborhood. DC is much more of the museums and the government is a vital city life with some great neighborhoods. Visit Shaw, where African-American Culture is paramount, Adams Morgan where diversity is the key, and Chinatown where earlier waves of immigrants in their brand. Foggy Bottom district is a major international front SW has its own rhythm. 5. Departure of Culture, free performances at the Kennedy Center, Military Band Concert Every year, the world-class including the Shakespeare Theatre Theatre, Arena Stage, Source, Signature, Wooley Mammoth, and many other professional theater companies here, and the National Ballet of Washington and a half dozen top rate choral groups, the orchestra! In New York there are other things I like. Spend time in Central Park – is beautiful and a great place for exercise or just sit. Visit some of the major museums, MOMA, the Museum of Natural History. I love it, and who is not too strong, the cloister, although they are quite far from downtown New York. Has many years, but NBC Studio Tour used to be just great. And of course, go to the top of the Empire State Building, take the ferry to Staten Island, and go Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
