nightclubs canberra
im from sydney.will be heading to canberra on the 6th of july..has anyone been to the canberra zoo?

looks great on the website.is it worth going to?what else can i do there for a couple days.family stuff.not nightclubs.thanks

Yes it is quite good. I was there not quite 12 months ago. There are several big cats and quite a few of the very small kinds of monkey, along with giraffe, eland and even a few dingos. Kangaroos and wallabies wander about and these will delight the children too. The aquarium is also very good with some very large fish including Murray cod.

Other family attractions would be Questacon and the War Memorial. It’s free, but toss a gold coin in the tray for veterans families. This is one of the best of it’s kind in the world. Another worthwhile attraction is the rail museum, but it’s hours of opening are limited as it is mostly a volunteer organisation. And of course the National Museum on the north side of the lake, free. Depending on the age of children, the parliament houses and art galley might also be worth visiting, even the National Library which often has something worth looking at on display. Both parliament houses have guided tours, in the new the tours seem to take off every 20 minutes, maybe every 40. These are free, as is the entry.

You can also cruise the lake and have a meal aboard the boat, this of course is not free. Probably the best of the commercial attractions are the miniature village and dinosaur land just along the Yass road near Hall.

Some historic houses are on show, Calthorpe’s House in Mugga Way was built and furnished in about 1927 and all the original furniture is still there, even including curtains, a pianola, a 1930s radio etc etc. Check out the bomb shelter in the back yard and the size of the shower head in the bathroom! Also a stone cottage used by a farm labourer’s family in the 19th century, this is on the north shore of the lake and the old Tuggeranong Homestead which is on the southern side of Canberra. Another place worth seeing is Lanyon on the Tharwa Road, this big pastoral property is over 150 years old. They have decent and relatively inexpensive meals in the old stables behind the house. The Serbian Orthodox Church in National Circuit is known for it’s painted ceiling.

There are multiple restaurants which are not particularly expensive, and of course the golden arches and kentusky tried buzzard.
