A few Boston questions?
I may be moving to Boston. I’ll be traveling there in a few months so I have a few questions.
1.) What are the cool, artsy, educated, liberal neighborhoods that are within either walking distance or a short drive to bars and restaurants?
2.) How is the nightlife? I’m not much for cheese ball clubs, I’d rather have a cold beer in a hole in the wall pub or glass of cab at a piano bar.
3.) How is the public transportation?
4.) While I’m here, what I should I visit besides the obvious (Red Sox, Celtics games, etc.)? Any must eat restaurants to check out? (I DON’T eat seafood!)
Thank YOU!
1. Cambridge sounds like a good place for you. It’s right next to Boston, but still accessible by the T. I’ve always thought of it as “artsy.” There’s a lot of students there, including grad students and MIT students. It’s within walking distance of many bars like the ones you described and also has some good restaurants.
Brighton is a section of Boston that I would describe in the same way as Cambridge.
2. You’re in luck, becuase Boston isn’t really clubby. It’s more bars and pubs. We have plently of dive bars. Jake Ivory’s is a cool piano bar on Landsdowne street, right near Fenway.
3. The T is our public transportation. When we say the T, we mean the train. It will take you everywhere in Boston. However, they stop running around 1am. Cabs are another option.
4. Restaurants: North End is a must. All of the restaurants there are great. My favorites are Strega, Fiore, and Massimino. Don’t forget a slice of Pizza at Pizzeria Regina and some canolis at Modern Pastry. Cafe Pompeii is great for late night.
- Top of the Hub is touristy. It’s located on the top of the Prudential Center and has a great view of Boston and good food.
- Some favorite steakhouses are Capital Grille, Ruth’s Chris, Mortons, Flemings, Abe & Louie’s, Davio’s, Sorellina.
- Also try Olives and Maggianos.
Things to do:
- Museums (Fine Arts, Science, and many more)
- Faneuil Hall for shopping, street performers, bars, restaurants. Cheers is located here!
- Newbury Street and Copley/Prudential for shopping and restaurants.
- Revere Beach. First public beach. Eat at Kelly’s Roast Beef. It’s amazing! And pizza at Bianchi’s.
