dance clubs in chicago?

im visiting chicago in a few weeks and want to go clubbing. not some crappy lame nightclub but i want good upbeat crazy! nightclubs…. but… im not 21 yet only 20 so it has to be 18 and up. anyone who has gone or hav had friends go? looking for good reviews!!!

UPDATED (with links and more info):

I’ll list some options for you, and give my opinion where I can. Since you aren’t age 21 yet, you might want to expand your horizons regarding “nightlife” options too:

NIGHTCLUBS:
See a list of 18+ clubs here: http://www.centerstagechicago.com/dance/clubs/styles/under21.html . You might want to skip the Warehouse or Zero Gravity. They are in the suburbs and probably too young of a crowd for you.

Not listed is Vision Nightclub, which hosts 18+ events. See http://www.visionnightclub.com/ . I’ve been to Vision a few times and it was fun. :-)

MUSIC VENUES:
There are music venues that host under 21 events in a random fashion, see http://www.centerstagechicago.com/music/articles/under21venues.html . The House of Blues (http://www.houseofblues.com/tickets/searchresults.php?mode=lview&venue=chicago&uuin=ConcertCalendar ) hosts music acts for a variety of ages too.

KARAOKE (Try a place that has private rooms, which is ideal for small groups):

http://chicago.metromix.com/bars-and-clubs/article/girls-night-out-karaoke/343293/content

RESTAURANTS:
There are fun-themed restaurants. They may kick you out before a certain time or it may not matter as long as you’re not drinking alcohol. You just need to call the places first to find out their age policies.

HOOKAH:
Hookah places (see http://chicago.citysearch.com/listings/chicago-il/hookah/58044?what=Hookah and http://www.centerstagechicago.com/search/index.cfm?phrase=hookah&button.x=0&button.y=0&button=FIND ) usually allow age 18 and up. See http://hookahchicago.com as well.

EXPLORE THE NEIGHBORHOODS:
The Belmont & Clark intersection (in Lakeview) has some pretty eclectic stores that appeal to a young, variety of people. Take the Clark #22 bus north or the Red (Howard)/Brown line (Kimball) north to Belmont and walk. See http://media.www.chicagoflame.com/media/storage/paper519/news/2007/09/10/Neighborhod/Clark.Belmont-2957693.shtml for some details.

You can hang out in a neighborhood like Bucktown/Wicker Park – a sort of artsy/hipster area of town. You can eat at some neat restaurants or check out independent, unique places like Myopic Books (http://www.myopicbookstore.com ) , Rodan (http://www.rodan.ws/default.html , which has a DJ some nights), Reckless Records (http://www.reckless.com ), The Silver Room (http://www.thesilverroom.com/ ), Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria for some carry out or delivered deep dish (http://www.loumalnatis.com/ ), Earwax Cafe (http://earwax-cafe.com/ ) , Bucktown Soup Cafe (http://www.bucktownsoupcafe.com/ ), and iCream Cafe (http://www.icreamcafe.com/ ). Take the Blue Line (O-Hare) to Damen. It’s basically the intersection of Damen, Milwaukee, and North Ave. Some of the named spots are open late, some are not.

SPORT COMPLEXES:
There are sport complexes like Ignite Network (http://www.ignitenetwork.com/v3/ ), Dave & Busters (http://www.daveandbusters.com ), Waveland Bowl (http://www.wavelandbowl.com ), and Whirlyball (http://www.whirlyball.com ). Also, mentioned in the articles above were the upscale 10-pin Lounge (by the House of Blues) and Lucky Strike Lanes (in the River East Center).

Chicago has a lot of attractions and restaurants/lounges (some that are open late at night). So, there’s plenty to check out if you’re under 21. Search these sites for events or places: http://chicago.metromix.com/ , http://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=1,5 , http://www.centerstagechicago.com/ , http://www.190north.com/ , http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/Home , http://flavorpill.com/chicago , and http://chicago.citysearch.com/ . Sign up for e-mail newsletters. Just call locations first to check their under-21 age policies and be safe when traveling, especially at night.

Tickets and Seating Arrangements for Riviera Theatre-Illinois and Royal George Theatre

If you’re heading out for a night on the town and want to get over to the uptown area of Chicago, there are more than a few choices for sites you can take in. One of the best places to get down and get your groove on, however is at the Riviera Theatre located at 4746 N. Racine Avenue. Conveniently situated off cross streets Broadway and Lawrence, those who want to take public transportation, can use the bus or train. Whether you want local entertainment or something else, you’ll be sure to find it at this location that combines a taste of something old and new.

Built in 1917 by the Rapp brothers, the Riviera Theatre was originally a movie theater. It wasn’t until 1986 that it was turned into a private nightclub and began gaining a reputation as one of Chicago’s most enjoyable concert halls. Today, the Riviera Theatre is a beautiful location that is available for private vents such as corporate gatherings, wedding ceremonies, receptions, birthday parties, poetry readings, study groups, and virtually any other gathering idea you may have.

The fantastic main floor has a centrally located bar, spacious dance floor directly in front of the stage with convenient stairways on both sides. Experience a unique opportunity with some original style seating in the balcony that still keeps you close to the action and provides excellent sites from many points. So if you’re looking for a great concert venue in an uptown location that’s host to many popular bands and entertainers all year round. You can easily plan your next event at the Riviera Theatre and give your guests an event and a night to remember. For a little more than the cost of a fast food value meal, you can get tickets to some really great events at the Riviera Theatre.

If you’re looking for a Lincoln Park venue that has a really great seat arrangement with excellent sites from virtually everywhere in the building, the Royal George Theatre is the place for you. Conveniently located at 1641 N. Halsted, expect to enjoy well spaced seats in this medium sized theater that has an intimate gallery seating arrangement, great room seating options and main stage/balcony seating for all choices in the house.

The Royal George Theatre is also home to a small studio theatre where up close open run comedies and musical performances are often hosted. From Hollywood big names like John Malkovich, Hugh Jackman, Jill St. John and Robert Wagner to local favorites, the Royal George Theatre has hosted many fabulous attractions and continues to be one of Chicago’s highly regarded choices for entertainment.

Built in 1984, the Royal George Theatre comprises four different theater options including the 447-seat main stage theatre with fixed seating on two levels. The cabaret studio is smaller, housing 193 seats but offers a fully stocked bar and is the ideal area for corporate events, private parties and small stage events. The 100-seat great room also has a fully stocked bar and lends an original spice to events with exposed timber ceiling beams and brick walls.

The gallery is a 50-seat black box theater that offers versatility in any number of ways such as a thrust stage or classroom setup for training sessions, team meetings, an intimate birthday party or anniversary celebration. Local eateries abound, all within walking distance. This widely recognized venue is easily reached from the north via I-94 east, the west via I-290 east or the south on I-55 North. You can also reach the Royal George Theatre by public bus or train. Valet parking is also available for those who wish.

exciting and affordable neighborhoods to go to San Diego in California for one?

I am a single man in the middle of my 20 years and looking for an exciting area to move from Chicago to the San Diego area. I am looking for an academic city feel without the price of a high class neighborhood. I'm used to cover as Wicker Park Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville ar students complete college and high bar scenes.

You must live in the Pacific Beach b / c that is exactly what you want. Worldwide there are between 20-30, many are students or post-children, inlcuding myself. Even older residents are quite cold, typical beachgoers CA; professional 40yo walk on the beach in shorts and flip flops cruises. BP is one of the best bars and nightclubs in scenes with SD Gaslamp Quarter and cheaper than downtown too. They allow alcohol on the beach and people are always drinking and partying throughout the year there. During the summer scene super beach B / C there are many people and a steady hand throughout the summer, thousands of people playing beer pong and other drinking games in the sand. PB and SD in general is full of transplants, so probably going to meet people where you're from and around the country. It is easy to meet people here, most are suitable complex Young people are always full of something, be it happy hour or play Bball PB Rec Center. The people here are very easy going and friendly, we all point down to have fun and enjoy SD life. SD is not cheap compared to other parts of the country, but is cheaper than LA or SF and not bad all things considered. I can pay $ 1,375 for 2 bedroom about 8 meters from the beach. It is more expensive the closer to the water. You can find places of $ 1,300 on a bed of 2 or less $ 900 for a room as far east as you go. The best parts are to live west of Ingraham St. and Lamont or the closest Ave Garnett PB is a nice place to live and the women are hot as hell, too. If you have more questions about the area feel free to ask.
