What Neighborhood in Portland, Oregon is Best for Me?

My girlfriend and I are looking to move to Portland, Oregon. As I understand it, this city has many defined areas and tight communities. I will give you some of what we are looking for to help you help us. Thanks in advance!

We are 27.

We would like to be in the city and plan to get a loft, condo, etc..

Like to be in the middle of everything with short walking distance to resturants, wine rooms, bars & nightlife.

Looking for an active community, always something going on outside.

We are both active, run and bike.

Most importantly somwhere safe with kind folks.

Thank you,

E

Sounds like you will fit right in to Portland. I recommend the West side of the Willamette (SW). The Pearl District is a rehabbed area near downtown with condos and lofts and views. There is also the N.W. 23rd Ave district which has original brick apartments and character but I don’t know about condos. It is a good choice for upscale markets and restaurants that you can walk to with good public transit to downtown. Another possibility is the downtown area of high-rise condos with a river view. You can look up Portland Center apartments for location only. There is one upper end community called Lake Oswego which has upscale condos and good restaurants and is suburban. If you dont have to be downtown, that is the best spot. All these areas have restaurants and services. Another area might be Sylvan going west away from downtown.
